My heart was pounding with excitement, I raised my head triumphantly. My whole face was glowing with pride, as a gleaming medal hung on my neck . I stood on the podium, but I felt like standing on Cloud 9. I was thrilled, and bullet-proof. Nothing could ruin the most joyous moment of my life.
I received a letter, inviting me to the Olympics running. I was ecstatic, too over the moon, that I did not think about how hard it would be.
I couldn’t run anymore. It was as if I had the whole world on my shoulders. I could feel my face burning, I could fry an egg on it. But I knew that this was the moment I had been waiting for my whole life. I was not going to let this opportunity slip away like dust in my hands. My heart and head throbbed horribly, as if it was going to burst. I kept on running, I did not stop. My mind was completely blurred, and I did not know whether I was at the front or at the back of the race. It didn’t matter anymore, I just had to make it out alive. I couldn’t feel myself at all. If I stopped, I would not keep on going.
I saw no people at the finish line, did I come last? My foot crossed the finish line, and that was when I realized…”
Am I first?” The judge hung a medal on my neck, and led me to the podium. “First place, Wendy Wang, from New
Zealand!”The speaker announced. The crowd went wild. I was still in a daze when more people trickled in from the finish line.
I couldn’t find my parents' faces in the stadium, among the screaming crowd, but I knew they would be proud.
I clutched my gold medal, with a beaming smile on my face, and screamed in my heart, I won the Olympics running!
